An automated guided vehicle or auto guided vehicle (AGV), also called autonomous mobile robot (AMR), is a portable robot that follows along marked long lines or wires on the floor, or uses radio waves, vision cameras, magnets, or lasers for navigation.
Intelligent navigation is aided by sensors, laser scanners and both 2D and 3D cameras. An arm with a vacuum gripper picks up each item and places it into the robot’s onboard storage space. AMRs of this type can also be designed to pick anywhere from the ground up to heights which would be difficult or impossible for humans to reach unaided.
